Our Work
Empowering Communities Through Equal Opportunities and Combating Discrimination
Blacare is an organization that works with under-served people and communities to tackle social and environmental issues—offering access to clean water through building communal water tanks and boreholes among others, Raising awareness of self-care and self-love tackling identity issues through programs like Back to school retreat days for kids, where they get free scholastic materials, free haircuts, accompanied by sensitization conversations such as the dangers of skin bleaching.
One of the key tools for Blacare is relying on building a sense of community amongst the people and also bringing it to the attention that they should participate in changing their environment positively. Therefore, Blacare puts regular festive celebrations that bring everyone together, for the kids to play together with self-made environmentally friendly toys that both boost their creativity and emphasize their right to play.
To push the mission further Blacare has engaged in collaborative reach-outs such as the economically deprived mothers to supply basic needs with the Rotary Club in Uganda, and the Karamoja Hunger food supply with Laba Africa. These activities act upon the emphasis that everyone should have access to the basic needs of water, food, and shelter.
About
Blacare is an organisation founded in 2019 by Angella Summer Namubiru. The initiative emerged from Angella’s personal story of being deprived of basic needs, encountering discrimination due to her skin colour, and struggling with a lack of quality education as a female in a large family where limited resources meant priority was given to the boys. When she achieved a successful social media presence and following, she dedicated her life to supporting those in similar situations.
She teamed up with Antonio Bukhar and Abdul Kinyenya, who had extensive expertise and experience in developing community-based projects with a mission to promote positive social change. Together, they combined their efforts to build Blacare. Since its inception, Blacare has worked in numerous communities across Uganda, including the northern communities of Karamoja, Kasese district in western Uganda, and most prominently in the central region where it is based.
The activities have included building water tanks in remote areas, supporting children with school fees and scholastic materials, and engaging young people in activities that develop them holistically. These activities include strategic play to build social and creative skills, arts and culture activities and balancing their right to play with life skills development.
